Awesome Gunblade Replica
This is probably the most awesome gunblade replica I've ever seen, it's Squall's gunblade from Final Fantasy VIII. It looks so good I would buy that thing in a random battle minute, to bad it sounds like a one off, a project for a prop making college course.

Lightning Gunblade Transformation Videos
A great computer generated representation of the Lightning gunblade transformation. It seems to me that it would be quite difficult to build this in reality, luckily that doesn't stop some folk from trying and with pretty cool results.
Gives me motivation to move forward with my gunblade build.

Potential Gunblade Build
I've been interested in a gunblade build on and off for awhile now and now that I have a bit more time in the evenings and a bit more cash in my pocket I thought the time was right to get it started.

Lightning's Destructive Hardened Steel Gunblade
Found a video of someone who decided to make a very real hardened steel replica of Lightning's gunblade from Final Fantasy VIII, and when I say real I mean this thing could literally chop limb from limb. The beautiful destruction of this beast is something to behold and the shear beauty of the craftsmanship is awesome, it looks heavy as hell though.

Life Size Gunblade Replicas
Howdy there, it's been a long, long time since my last post, so long in fact that I hadn't noticed this blog had been hacked, hijacked and showing content from some dirty scoundrel for the past three or so months, luckily they didn't lock me out and I was able gain control fairly hassle free.
Anyhoo, I've been on the lookout for more life size Gunblade replicas recently and came across the video below showcasing a Gunblade that I've always known as the X Fantasy Gun Sword, I thought they had stopped making these but it seems they are all over eBay. It was for the longest time the only life size Gunblade replica you could get, then they seemed to disappear off the radar, now they're back again, joy!!!

The state of Gunblades for sale
Sadly there aren't a lot of real Gunblades out there for purchase, there was a really nice unofficial one called the x fantasy gun sword, life size and all, but I'm guessing due to the crackdown on pirated goods by Square-Enix, I can no longer seem to find it anywhere, maybe if you're lucky you'll find on ebay.
Check for Gunblades on eBay U.S.A
Also check for Gunblades on eBay U.K
There was also another life size wooden Gunblade on offer, but that seems to have gone the way of the dodo as well.
And then there's the ever present official miniature Gunblade replicas, you can get those pretty much anywhere, but it ain't life size.
I guess the only real option if you want a life size Gunblade is to make one yourself.

A very close look at Squall's Gunblade replica (Video)
If you were wondering what the officially licensed Squall's Gunblade from Square-Enix
looked like then your in luck. The following video shows one lucky owner exploring every bit of it.
It's a whole lot smaller than I thought.

Even Chicks like Gunblades
The following video shows this gunblade, I think and it looks pretty bad ass, heavy and solid.
By the way the OWNER of this gunblade is A1JE and she's a girl, never expected that. Seems like a lot of passion out there for gunblades.
WARNING: Strong Language.

A closer look at four Video Game Replicas
OK that is not me in the video below, I was just browsing the tube and found it pretty informative.
The first Replica presented by the dude in this video is a life size Kingdom Hearts Key Blade, I haven't seen this for sale anywhere so I'm assuming it's custom made or non-licensed, still looks cool though.
The second "replica", well not entirely, is a life size Gunblade, I think it's the X Fantasy Gun Sword, it actually looks a lot more solid than I previously thought, a lot bigger to, though the barrel still looks pretty crap.
The Third Replica is a big asSephiroth Masamune Sword. It to look nice and solid and to big for my home.
The last is a home made version of that freaky ass thing from Silent Hill, I wouldn't mind having the big knife.
Check out the video to get a feel for what these replicas are really like, I love watching video of what I don't own, someday though.

Make Your own Gunblade
UltraMagnus left a comment on Where to buy a Gunblade and left a few nuggets of great information.
If you can't buy a Gunblade, why not just make it. In my research of Gunblades I've seen a few how to guides, the results are pretty cool, I've even seen some homemade Gunblades that look mint but the secret to how they made them was left out.
I'll start with the two "how to" guide UltraMagnus left in the comments and I'll post more in future posts.
First is the Nerf Hornet Mod by b00m13, you can find the complete guide with pictures and instructions here.
And heres a video of b00m13 demonstrating the final creation.
Nerf Final Fantasy 8 Squall Gunblade Hornet Mod
Second is an origami Gunblade with some very fine features to it, I couldn't even begin think about making this one, I have a hard enough time making paper airplanes.
That's it for now, I'll be posting some info on some one off Gunblade creations I've seen and hopefully figure out how they made them, if they haven't got guides already that is.

X Fantasy Gun Sword (Life Size)
*Looks to be no longer available new, though you could probably pick it up second hand.
The X Fantasy Gun Sword is the only full metal life size Gunblade I have found, their are some "Do It Yourself" ones out there, but nothing up for sale.
The blade is 27" of Stainless Steel along with a cast metal handle, revolver. It also comes with a custom made leather sheath.
I mean if your wanting a life size full metal Gunblade this is probably all you'll get, unless you know of another, let me know. I don't think it would be that great for cosplay or events as the blade is metal and could actually do some damage if used that way, but as a display piece and something to show your friends it's great.

Gunblade Revolver
*No longer available, though it was available at kingofswords.com.
This is my favorite of the non-final fantasy gunblades, it's got a wicked cool looking stainless steel blade and a hardwood stock handle, the only two things that I don't like about it are that it's only 18 1/2" long and to me the barrel looks to short.
But other wise I think it's a great contender to the FF gunblades.

Squalls Gunblade Revolver
Final Fantasy Master Arms Die-Cast Replica: Squall's Gunblade
This is the only officially licensed Squall Gunblade out there, you can get it from a lot of places, but it's a Japanese import so shipping may take awhile. It's 1/6th scale, made of Die-cast metal and various other materials, it comes with a display stand and comes in a collectors box.
The things a piece of art and if I don't get the entire 4 piece set, I'll probably try and get this one by itself.

Seifer's Automatic Gunblade
Final Fantasy Master Arms Die-Cast Replica: Seifer's Gunblade
The other official FF8 gunblade out there is the 1/6 scale Seifer's Automatic Gunblade, Hyperion, certainly looks like a bad boys gunblade.
I still much prefer Squall's Leonheart, just seems to have a more classic medieval feel to it, but having the set would be cool as well.

Complete Set of Final Fantasy Weapons
Well if you don't mind a whole set of Final Fantasy weapons, then this is for you, an officially licensed set of 4 weapons from Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts, including Vincent Valentine's Cerberus, Squall's Revolver Gunblade, Seifer's Automatic Gunblade and Sora's Keyblade.
That Cerberus seems like something I would like to have, big and beefy, just a pity they aren't life sized. I don't know about that Keyblade, maybe if I had played the game I would understand what all the hype was about, seems to be a huge following for that game.
Other than that I'm really thinking about buying this set, seems a shame to split them up by getting them individually, I'd better decide because I get the impression that there's not to many around.

Where to buy a Gunblade
To be honest there isn't a huge selection of Gunblades on the market and with the recent event of Square-Enix cracking down on those who infringe their copyright there may be a whole lot less to choose from.
So if your looking for an official life size Final Fantasy 8 Gunblade, I'm sorry but your out of luck. The two I know of on the market are Squall's Gunblade and Seifer's Gunblade both of which are 1/6th scale but beautifully crafted by Square-Enix.
If you're able to find them anywhere else at a different scale then they're probably not legal, Square-Enix only produces the two above.
But what other options do you have, well if you don't mind imitation then your in luck, they're not exact replicas of those found in FF8, but they are "Gun Blades"
We'll start with what I think is the coolest of the non FF8 Gunblades, the X Fantasy Gun Sword (no longer available), this is a life sized Gunblade with steel blade and cast metal handle and comes with a sheath, the handle looks a little naff though. But if your after a life size steel Gunblade I think this is your best bet.
Then we have this piece (no longer available), it looks pretty cool and at 42" it's rather life size, I think it's made entirely of wood, which would make it perfect for cosplay.
Following the above items there really isn't much else, below are a few pretty unique Gunblades, but really nothing like what's in FF8.
Pirate Flintlock Pistol / Dagger Combination
1800s Flintlock Pistol / Dagger Combination
Flintlock Fantasy dagger
And lastly we have what I think is the coolest of the lot, it's not life size so that's why it's last of the list, but I think it's even cooler the FF8 Gunblades, it's got a stainless steel blade with a hardwood handle and the cast metal barrel and trigger look quality as. Awesome looking Gunblade.

Gunblade pickings will now be pretty slim
So with the news that Square-Enix is cracking down on manufacturers of unlicensed replicas of their trademarks, copyrights etc, I think it's going to be pretty hard getting an actual life size Final Fantasy Gunblade.
What Square have on offer are a few Gunblade replicas at a scaled down size, about 10 inches, but boy are they nice looking. But other than that if you want a life size replica your going to have to go some where else, though the pickings are pretty slim and your not going to get something that looks exactly the same as the in game ones.
I'm sure the demand for life size Gunblade replicas is there, so why doesn't Square-Enix supply that demand, maybe they've got plans for something and that's why they're cracking down on pirates.
